WEDC Awarded $4 Million in South Korean Defense SystemPhoenix, Arizona - October 28, 2008 - White Electronic Designs Corporation (NASDAQ:WEDC) has been awarded contracts worth approximately $4 million for its manufacture of sophisticated semiconductor products used in the K9 self-propelled howitzer, a mobile launch vehicle that fires artillery.The K9 is an advanced howitzer designed and developed for the South Korean Agency for Defense Development. The vehicle utilizes a 1,000 horsepower engine which allows it to travel at 67 kph, allowing it increased battlefield survivability, as it can quickly be brought into action, open fire and then retreat, thereby making it less likely to be engaged by counter battery fire. The K9 has a battlefield range of 40 km and fires 155mm ordnance. "Our advanced semiconductor multi-chip packages are integrated into the vehicle's advanced artillery system providing state of the art deployment and accuracy," stated Dan Tarantine, executive vice president of White Electronic Designs Corporation. "Our products were designed in during the development of the K9 where extremely high quality standards were mandated by the Korean defense forces. This contract is expected to ship over the next three years." "We have received major contracts totaling nearly $11 million in the past 60 days," continued Mr. Tarantine. "While there is a significant level of uncertainty in the overall economy, the activity in the defense electronics business continues to be very strong.
