WEDC Offers VLP 2GB DDR2 DIMM for Low-Height Applications
Phoenix, AZ—August 9, 2006—White Electronic Designs Corporation (NASDAQ:WEDC) announces the release of its 2GB DDR2 SDRAM Registered, with PLL, VLP providing a board height of .72 inches (18.29mm). The new JEDEC-standard DDR2 DIMM is an ideal solution for low-height blade servers, network switching or embedded computer applications.
WEDC’s VLP 2GB DDR2 ECC-registered DIMM is a 2x128Mx72 Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM high density module based on DDR2 SDRAM components. The module consists of eighteen stacks of 256Mx4 bit with 4 banks DDR2 SDRAMs in Fine Ball Grid Array (FBGA) packages on a 240-pin DIMM FR4 substrate.
The component features dual in-line memory with data transfer rates of PC2-4300 and PC2-3200, utilizing 533 and 400 Mb/s DDR2 SDRAM components, offers multiple internal device banks for concurrent operation and supports duplicate output strobe. The .72 inch device meets low-height requirements by enabling vertical installation, providing increased airflow and allows for additional memory slots.
Utilizing FBGA packaging enables higher speed memory requirements and moves the device connections from metal leads along the side of the device to ball connections on the underside of the device. This enables connections with shorter line lengths from the actual packaged semiconductor die, versus using Thin Small-Outline Package (TSOP). All DDR2 modules are available as RoHS (Restrictions on Hazardous Substances).
Pricing and Availability
Defined as part number W3HG2128M72ACER-AD6, the VLP 2GB DDR2 SDRAM is priced at $445.00 (US) each in volumes of 1,000 pieces with a lead-time of 4-6 weeks.
