WEDC Develops Keypad Alternative to Capacitive Touch Switches
Columbus, OH-October 5, 2005-White Electronic Designs Corporation's (NASDAQ:WEDC) Interface Electronics Division announces availability of its SimTouch™ keypads. Designed as a lower cost alternative to capacitive touch switches, SimTouch keypads are an ideal solution for many appliance applications such as ranges, dishwashers and refrigerators.
WEDC's SimTouch advanced technology utilizes a flexible overlay, similar to a membrane keypad, but the lowered construction thickness greatly reduces the travel distance and the force required to close the switch, thus simulating a touch switch. SimTouch construction permits the use of thicker overlay materials which provides a richer, glass-like appearance to the product. Overlays can also be metallized to give a stainless steel look.
WEDC is currently performing extensive testing on various SimTouch constructions. This testing includes actuation within the temperature range of -10ºC to + 105ºC, as well as UL requirements. Patent applications have been filed covering the SimTouch technology.
SimTouch is a trademark of White Electronic Designs Corporation.
